Gig In The Glen, Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline - 20th August 2006

Gig Review - Shirl Gibson, St.Helens, Merseyside.

The gig was in a lovely spot in Pittencrieff Park, and what made it more than welcoming was the sight of the rest of 4MW [and Moira!] already in place at the front row. Unfortunately, there wasn't a massive turn out, although those who were there were as keen as mustard, and most had travelled from quite far afield, including Angel and his wife who had travelled from Spain. In conversation with Sandra Watson, she commented on how poorly the gig had been advertised locally. There was the odd poster here and there, but I must admit in comparison to the 4GM gig at Portpatrick, I had to agree with her. She mentioned that more people had come to the gig from outside Dunfermline, than there were 'home' fans, which surprised me as I thought that there would have been more there because of the connection with Bruce.

The schedule was running late by the time 4GM were on. All went well with the intro, but there was a hiccup with the start of 'Waterfront'. There was some fault with the sequenced bass, not sure whether it was weather related, but the song had to be aborted, but not to be deterred, the band kicked on into 'Boys Keep Swinging' which stamped their welcome to the night. 'Chance' followed, and went down well with those who had come to the gig from the Big Country fanbase. Although I had heard this done by the band several times, it was quite poignant to hear it in Dunfermline. I didn't note the full set-list, I know the songs that were played but forgive me if I get them in the wrong order. The following tracks did include Duel, Someone Somewhere In Summertime, Love Song, Don't Get Me Wrong, Falling, Dream To Sleep, Kiss Cool, Belfast Child, In A Big Country and Don't You Forget About Me. Every song went down a storm, and there were plenty of phones and cameras capturing the moment. The crowd grew as the slot developed into the stormer that it became.

North America beckons in a few months time. If this performance is anything to go by, those who are due to see them there will not be disappointed.
