Jim Prime is currently a lecturer in Commercial Music at the University of Paisley, Scotland. Turning professional at 20, Jim began his music career playing keyboards with John Martyn. Playing with Altered Images progressed to joining Deacon Blue as co-song writer, which have had 17 top forty hits and 3 number one albums. Some of their songs include Real Gone Kid, Fergus Sings the Blues, and Dignity.
As well as Deacon Blue, who continue to perform, he then played for 2 years in France with Johnny Halliday as a member of his band and completed an album there called 'Lorada'. From humble beginnings playing piano in social clubs and restaurants, pantomimes and theatre, Jim has completed a number of soundtracks including ' Against the Tide' a documentary on the life of George Orwell and 'Dreaming' a film by writer William McIllvanney and music for 'Bad Boys'. He has played with Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Ronnie Scott an appeared in a biography of Woodie Guthrie called 'Folkways' for MTV and PBS playing 'Rock Island Line' with Little Richard.
Recent highs were lending the Rev Al Green his Hammond organ for a show in Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall and closing the special Olympics in Glasgow with friends from Simple Minds and Spear of Destiny. He was honoured to open the Tsunami benefit concert in Glasgow. He currently lectures at the University of Paisley ( Ayr Campus) on the B.A Commercial Music ( hons) course.
