Gig Reviews
Review 1 - Pamie, Glasgow, Scotland.
What a brilliant gig! The weather was awful. The crowd was interesting but the band were amazing. Had a thoroughly excellent night (even if I was driving). Lovely to meet everyone.

Tabs and Billy picked me up just after 11 on Saturday morning, from my friend's house near Newcastle. We arrived at Achmed's about 3 hours later. It wasn't long before we were being treated to a mini practice session in the conservatory.. Love Song and Waterfront clips were welcomed and there was the odd blast of an Ultravox classic to boot. The tinnies and JD were soon sorted and the pizzas quickly followed. (I hasten to add here that Tabs was very good at this point and was sticking to his one bevvy only limit as our driver.. though this was to be rectified later at the gig itself, as we had a taxi booked for the trip back.) Finding the hospitality tent at the site was a bit of laugh.. All these gates for different passes, and those without passes?? Phone call to James sorted us out in the right direction, and it wasn't too long before we found the correct tent. Finding adequate loos was a bit of an issue.. What's this?? One portaloo up a little hill.. yes that suited Shirl fine.. esp with an ankle that doesn't like hills or uneven ground!! Good to bump into James soon after arriving, and had a welcome chinwag. Others weren't too long behind, and it was good to meet Chris Bell and discuss Westworld and Spear in general. The drinks buying arrangement worked well and was cheap. We bought passes. A pass cost £6 for one, or £10 for two. Each pass entitled you to four drinks. Not bad at all considering some of those included Becks, Buds and Smirnoffs.
The soundcheck went well. Quite a few people were watching the band as they sheltered from the weather, and applauded after Heart Of Wonder. This showed good signs for the evening, especially as this was a 4GM original and would have probably been the first time they had heard it. The band were on their usual form for the gig itself. More folk came in as the set continued, although the place wasn't exactly empty when they started. There was plenty of dancing and drinking, and just a great buzz. Highlight of the night for me was Heart Of Wonder/In A Big Country, though there wasn't a weak moment in the whole set...and meeting Pamie and her friend (sorry I can't remember her name) again. Let's hope we get to see Kieran again too, eh??
I've got to take this opportunity to thank Tabs and Billy for the lift north of the border, and for Achmed's hospitality. Without you guys I wouldn't have got to this gig, and as it's the only Scottish 4GM gig I was getting to this summer I am especially grateful. All I can say is Roll on Rotherham - It can't come soon enough.. Hopefully we'll catch all the usual suspects there too.. It wouldn't be the same without you!!
