Gig Review - Paul McAneney, Falkirk, Scotland
What a great weekend!
Me and my wife Anne attended both days of the event and it was brilliant throughout. We had never seen FOURGOODMEN before but knew of the Simple Minds connection as we'd followed Derek and Mick's careers from the beginning. My wife was looking forward to seeing Orson, who she'd recently bought cd's of, and I was looking forward to the headline act which was Midge Ure. We were both very impressed with the line-up over the two days, but particularly blown away with FOURGOODMEN. The lead guitarist was excellent, his name ascapes me at the moment but I know he played in Big Country.
The backing singer was getting some attention from a couple of fella's in front of us, whistling whenever she looked our way.
It was great to hear some of the well known Simple Minds songs being played live again. The crowd agreed by the sounds of things. It's a pity the crowd on the Sunday wasn't nearly as big as it was the day before. It was rumoured that 70,000 showed up on the Saturday. Where did they all go? We're looking forward to next years show already. We hope that FOURGOODMEN will also return to play the songs which were basically the soundtrack to my life. Finally, the piper was a great touch and complimented the music brilliantly, especially the anthemic 'In A Big Country' which got the crowd well and truly rocking.
Well, looking ahead to 'Big In Falkirk 2007'. Well done FOURGOODMEN, and the two ladies of course.
