Drum Accessories For Keeping Your Drum in Top Condition
It is the compelling sound that usually first attracts someone to learn to play drums. Once you buy one and start to play, you might be surprised to see how involving these instruments are. Soon you will want to take your drum different places to participate in drum circles or other events. You will also be interested in tuning and maintaining your drum. A good bag will have padding to serve as insulation as well as protection while the bag is being carried from place to place. Better to invest in a quality bag up front than to have to replace a drum head later. Of course, if your drum's head does ever need replacement you can buy a skin and either rehead it yourself or have someone else rehead it for you.
Other popular djembe accessories are straps for playing while standing up. Straps are available in various sizes and designs to suit both the drum and the drummer. Some drummers use the strap for support while sitting, too, to distribute the weight around their body so they don't have to hold the djembe with just their legs. Some stands can be adjusted for height and angle and are suitable for playing while standing up.
Djembe accessories for tuning include ropes and lacing tools for tightening them. The ropes seen on a djembe are not simple decorations. While not exclusively drum accessories, hand care products are also important. Care of the drum head and care of the hands go together. Shea butter is the recommended hand treatment because it is as good for both skins, yours and the drum's.
As you experiment with the sounds of African percussion you may want to add the resonators known as ksink ksink. These drum accessories are shield-shaped metal pieces that fit around the head, adding complexity to the rhythm in the form of a shaker-type sound. Shakers, bells, and sticks are other instruments you may want to experiment with. You can find them in the same places where you buy other djembe accessories.
